Just after midnight on Thursday, Aug. 10, Bend Police responded to a report that a 33-year old Redmond man had been shot in the 1000 block of NW Wall Street in downtown Bend.
When officers responded, they found a man on the ground with a gunshot wound. Officers rendered aid to the man, who was transported by ambulance to St. Charles Bend, where he died from his injuries.
The suspect fled the scene and officers are still looking for him.
Wall Street between Greenwood and Oregon avenues and Oregon Avenue between Bond and Tumalo streets were both shut down for four hours while officers investigated.
Early in this shooting investigation, the Bend Police Department learned that a witness to the incident is related to our Chief of Police.
Out of an abundance of caution and to prevent potential conflicts of interest, the Bend Police Department made the proactive decision to formally request the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office assume the role of primary agency overseeing the case investigation.
Bend Police wish to thank Bend Fire & Rescue, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, the Oregon State Police, and the Redmond Police Department for their assistance on this incident.
