NEW TODAY: Another Fire Breaks Out In Bend Wednesday

Bend Fire Department responded to a small brush fire off of NW 12th St near Summit Drive this morning. Passerby’s noticed smoke coming from brush below the homes in the Hillside Park neighborhood.

Neighbors and passerby’s were able to put water on the fire before spreading the homes. The fire was kept small at less than 1/10th of an acre. Similar to yesterdays fire, the cause was not able to be determined. The fire is human caused but no specific cause could be determined.

Bend Fire says this is another great example that defensible space helped keep this fire from spreading. The green lawn between the fire area and the home kept the fire from quickly spreading up to the deck and the home. But more can always be done. Be sure that there is adequate clearance between combustible vegetation and your home. This includes brush, trees and bark mulch. The steeper your lot, the more distance needed.
