What Is It Like To Serve On Bend-La Pine School District Board? Public Forum Now Scheduled

Bend-La Pine Schools’ Board of Directors invites interested community members to learn more about what it’s like to serve on the school board during two upcoming information sessions. The events are set to take place at the Education Center in downtown Bend Tuesday, Feb. 26 from 7 to 8 p.m. (following a regularly scheduling school board meeting) and Tuesday, March 12 from 10 to 11 a.m.

Board members will share the roles and responsibilities of being a board member, the time commitment involved, and answer questions from attendees.

Four school board seats will be on the ballot as part of the May 21 special election. These include:

Zone 1 – now vacant; previously held by Cheri Helt. The election will be for the remainder of the 4-year term, which expires June 30, 2021. Zone 1 represents voting precincts 1, 3, 7, 8, 27, 35, 47 and 49.
Zone 3 – currently held by Andy High. Zone 3 represents voting precincts 2, 4, 5, 25 and 42.
Zone 5 – currently held by Ron Gallinat. Zone 5 represents voting precincts 9, 21, 32, 33, 34, 43 and 44.
Zone 6 – currently held by Peggy Kinkade. Zone 6 is an at-large position.

The deadline for candidates to file for these seats is March 21.
