Eastern Oregon ranchers convicted of arson are out of prison

President Trump used his pardon power to grant full pardons to Eastern Oregon father and son cattle ranchers, age 49 and 76, who have been serving federal prison time for setting fire to public lands.

Their arrest led to an intense, gun-filled standoff in an Oregon wildlife refuge in 2016.

Cattle ranchers refused to move, fighting back against what the saw as overreach by the federal government.

Those leading the dramatic scene were defending the Hammond family – a father and son pair convicted of setting fires to cover up poaching.

President Trump has now decided that the Hammond’s have served enough time.

Dwight and Steven Hammond were released from a federal detention center south of Los Angeles Tuesday.
