Many of us who live here enjoy Central Oregon’s breweries, and others come from around the country to get in on the local beer scene, but is that causing transportation problems?
The Oregon Department of Transportation’s highway safety plan says “Central Oregon is a major tourist destination, not just for its winter and summer recreational opportunities but also for its drinking culture.”
The plan concludes that culture “increases the dangers on the road.”
The Bulletin reports data does not support that claim, saying neither Bend nor Deschutes County stands out from the crowd when it comes to alcohol-related traffic fatalities.
